1 25 General Hospital B. E. F. 2ndJuly 1916 My very dearest Mother— A thousand thanks for your
very long letter, I really got quite a
shock about poor Charlie although
I had practically given up hope of
him turning up I still thought
there might be a chance & really
was hoping against hope. as you say
when one realizes it is really
a great consolation to know he
did not suffer for long & feel
sure Our Lady took care of him
& that he is out of all suffering
now— What a brave boy he was &
like him to have his wound dressed
& then go on again. It is really
impossible to realize we shall never
see his dear face again, how we shall 2 all miss him — all the poor Mothers the
anxiety these days, until it really
like this touches oneself so much it
brings this terrible war home to us.
I do hope it will end soon every one
has had queit enough sorrow & trouble
I have been very busy these
last few days —On Friday we
evacuated at 11 O’ck except for one
patient got all beds made up in
morning, in the afternoon I was on
duty alone with two orderlies
had just finish scrubbing my lockers
& making up new kits when
a convoy came in & before 5 O’ck
we were full up — We had a new
Sister on the block who knew nothing
about Military ways & as she would
have been alone I went back so
had a fine days work most of
them are being cleared out again
to—morrow, so I suppose we shall 3 only just get time to clear up
again for a new batch—
I think I had better end there
is a great deal I want to say
but it is 11—-30 & lights are suppose
to be out 10—-30— I shall write
to—morrow all the news & answer
any question you asked—
