I am now back again at the 1st July which
I have just rewritten having found many
inaccuracies in my former account tho' based
on official documents! It really is difficult &
I was never intended as to be a historian but I hope
to buckle to it again better tho' I don't see
how I am ever to get up to date. The first
12 pages before the attack I am fairly well
pleased with now but than I was in personal
touch with the whole thing. 2 However I drew one winner today getting
my evening report passed as 'Excellent' I
feel as if I was back at School & had got
top marks on my essay. It really is curious
to be doing this kind of work in the middle of

spoken about Sam Hu not that I should mind
if he was found out, so I think it is as well. A very curious situation came about yesterday.
Gen' B.G a staff college contemporary had a talk
about the dispatch, & after I had settled down to
make notes came in & said What do you think 3 of my position as a Brigadier Gen' GS, kept on
the staff because of my qualifications & passed over
by 20 juniors in consequence. I am told it will
be all right after the war but you know what
that means. Can't you do anything? !!! When I add that he attributes his not having
gone quicker to the fact that he was anti Ulster
and therefore not acceptable to H.G you will
realise the humour of the situation. It never
struck me that I should be held responsible for
the promotions and awards in the Gazette, &
my future would indeed be a warm one if I
were not able to point to one great factor that
my name is not among them. I am so glad about the maids and hope
everything will go smoothly. The holiday for all 4 as the move certainly seems indicated now
& I think you can pay their tickets to Belfast
as a holiday treat (? from us both). I'm rather
