1 21st June— 25th General Hospital B. E. F. My very dearest Mother, I hope you received my
letter with my birthday wishes
to you to—day. I must start
off by telling you do not
worry if you do not get
many letters. I shall try
& write you a card every
day, we have to be most
particular what we say. all
our letters are censored, which
takes some time, so that they
may be delayed very much.
I have had a very busy day
so am writing this in bed
& we had a concert here for
the patients in the evening
I did not sing. I do wish
I had taken lessons so that
I could have helped in this
way also. Now that I am 2 getting to know my sister
I think I shall like my
work very much, of course
we have a great deal mor
house work to do than in
Malta. We gave the few
men that were left to—day
a Tea, but unfortunately it
was very scrappy as it
is impossible to buy any
thing out here. & I have
not had time to get
to Boulogne yet, as one
can only get there when
we have half a day
which I believe are going
to cease owing to the rush
we are expecting any
time now—There is so
much I would like to
say but think it safer
not as they are very
particular out here— I shall 3 try and keep a dairy
Imagine I have not seen
a paper since I left
england so do not
know what is really
happening, there seems
to be a fair amount
of fighting as we heard
the guns queit distinctly
all day to—day— We were
really busy to—day—
My toe is rather trouble
some. I have not been
able to wear any other
shoes than my patent
leather pair as for the
new ones they are
impossible as yet but
am waiting till toe is
alright. I may have to
get a pair of Walking shoes
just like my P. leather ones
only in Cold for the work 4 it is a very hard place
on shoes— However I shall
let you know— No letters from home yet
we get a Mail every
day, but the last few
days it has been very
late. Will you send
me Bernards & the other
O'Kellys address I may
be fairly near B. base—
I am feeling A.1 & live
a very out of door life
really. Paul & I have
a charming room to—gether
in a Villa, we were very
lucky as a great number
have to sleep on Camp
beds— Matron seems very
nice so do all the sisters
Did you get the £5—00
note I am very worried

I hope they are doing
nothing out there. I suppose
you have heard nothing more
of poor Charlie—? How are all the family at

we have a sweet little
church here & there is
daily mass here at
6—30 & several on Sunday
so we were able to get
mass to—day — when I
