1 9July My Dear Lil A perfect day & we seem
miles away from the events of
last week. The letters from
home help to complete the
dil> illusion. Elsie's letters show
immense pleasure in her
work. I'm so glad. Singleton & I leave early
tomorrow for a new destination.
We hope it only means that
the Division is being taken
up somewhere to reorganize,
& that we shall again return
to the more pleasant country
where we now are. I have just read the MP
leader - Friday's - which must
be unpleasant reading to BL,
because every word of it rings 2 out it truth. In this world
the honest man - such as I
still believe BL to be - has
no chance against the Squiffy
crew. I am not writing to
Burlington tho' I think of
you on the sea shore with Siredward
& Lady C, getting pinker &
pinker I the hot sun. It is wonderful to me how
Mater has stood the past
week so well . I think she
feels that the responsibility is
on you, & if you manage the all
right she can. The Times has certainly let
itself go over the Ulster Div-
far more than the MP . Perhaps
it feels some qualms & hopes
to soothe them. 3 It is very curious that
the Times should have
been generous in its praise
& not the MP, but the
latter is probably waiting
for details. I hope so any-
how or I shall be greatly
disappointed. Perhaps one of
the 2 families will have
kept the cuttings in Tuesday
& Wednesday's Times &
I may see the Belfast
Whig too which is sent to
Henry.
