should I thank them now or wait till Xmas?
What are the others doing? It is funny I think
christmas coming again. I wish I could get
home for it. I suppose D. will be back
any way. I wish she would bring Leslie
over with her. I want a
hand glass badly for Xmas, as mine has
been smashed to smithereens, or a white
silk skirt, or woolen gauntlets, very
large, to pull over my hands going to and
from the hospital, or a pair of black silk
stockings for visiting. I seem to have quite
a collection of wants in spite of living
a the in uniform, and books would 2
be very welcome too— I went Left. Fidwell's on Tuesday night
and was very spoiled. It is a nice big house
but a little too much like an hotel,
and the girls were so nice, it was fun
seeing them again.
They and their father
all came down to breakfast in riding
kit, as they always go for a ride in
the mornings and they looked very nice
in it. There was a nice little nephew
staying there such a handsome little
fellow and full of chit chat. He
took me into the billiard room and
explained some wonderful game he
played with the cues and billiard balls.
In the morning Marjorie and I went
for a short walk and did a little
shopping, then we had early lunch and
motored int in to see "The Man Who
Stayed at Home," quite an exciting play
with Denis Eadie as the hero. On the
way back we picked up a sister in
law. Who was working at one of these
war depots at Cavendish Square, and
they dropped us at Forning's for tea
as she was going home via Victoria
too. She saw me off and wants
me to go see her at Sutton, but I
have no time to pay visits. I had
another letter from Miss Bruce asking
me there again but I am saving up my
next half day on the chance of seeing
Dorothy on her way to Eastbourne. Emma seems to have a good deal of
time off, but I suppose it is awfully hot
in the middle of the day. It is sad about old Mrs Coates, her
Annie will feel very lonely without her - 3
What did Sam get the Legion of Honour for?
It is splendid. Aunt Margaret will be pleased.
Poor Mrs Caldicott has been ill with
some inflammation and been removed to
hospital and I don't think will be
coming back to nurse here. She was
a regular Irishwoman and reminded me
so of Aunt Sally. I am sorry she has
gone from this house as she was awfully
decent to me always - Miss Haig and I have just been having
a cup of tea in the kitchen before
going back to hospital. My new coat
is very warm and comfortable, I am
glad I have got it. Pay day to-morrow
so I shall be quite well off again,
and have few expenses - Best love dearest, I hope
you are keeping well this winter,
