Letter from Edward O'Farrell to the Clerk of the Crown and Peace, County Down, 25 May 1916
No. 8737. Sir, With reference to your letter of the 11th
instant to the County Inspector Royal Irish Con-
stabulary, Downpatrick, in regard to the case of
the King v Samuel Heron, I am directed by the Lords
Justices to request you to be good enough to hand
over to the police the one pound note mentioned
therein and also two note books, one the property
of Sergeant Reynolds, and the other the property
of Constable McClaine, which were handed in at the
hearing of the case at Newtownards Petty Sessions
and, it is presumed, are attached to the depositions. I am,

This is a letter from Edward O'Farrell (1857-1926) the assistant under-secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland Sir Ivor Churchill Guest , or Lord Wimborne as he is better known. The lord lieutenant or viceroy was the monarch’s representative in Ireland. O'Farrell was writing to the Clerk of the Crown and Peace in the county of Down. In the letter O'Farrell is asking the clerk to send a one pound note and two notebooks that had been handed up during a hearing.
