Letter from Edward O'Farrell to Sir Charles Edward Troup, 8 February 1916

1 8th February,1916. 2265 Sir, I am directed by the Lord Lieutenant to forward to
you, to be laid before the Secretary of State, the attached
application for release from internment from Gustav Adolf Etter ,
at present a prisoner of war in Oldcastle Detention Camp
with report thereon from the Dublin Metropolitan police. His Excellency desires me to say that he concurs in
the view of the General Officer Commanding the Troops in
Ireland that this man should not be released from detention. I am,

This letter was written by Sir Edward O'Farrell (c.1857-1926), the Assistant Under Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, on behalf of Sir Ivor Churchill Guest, Lord Wimborne (1973-1939), Lord Lieutenant of Ireland.The letter was addressed to Sir Charles Edward Troup (1857-1941). Troup was a civil servant, becoming permanent Under Secretary from 1908 until 1922. He took special interest in police and criminal work while employed in the Home office.In this letter O'Farrell is forwarding an attached application for the release of Gustav Adolf Etter a present prisoner of war in Oldcastle Detention Camp. He is also forwarding a report from the Dublin Metropolitan Police.
