Letter from Andrew Philip Magill to Cecil Harmsworth, 1 April 1916.

1 Copy 1st April, 1916. Dear Mr. Harmsworth, I am desired by Mr. Birrell to acknowledge the
receipt of your letter of 31st ultimo, and to say
that he has taken note of your recommendation of
Sir J. R. O'Connell for appointment as Chief Crown
Solicitor for Ireland, and his claims will be fully
considered, but, as you are probably aware, the

This letter was written by Andrew Philip Magill (1871-1941) and sent to Cecil Harmsworth (1869-1948). Magill was a civil servant and held the position of private secretary for successive chief secretaries of Ireland until his transfer to the Northern Irish Civil Service in 1921. Harmsworth was a British politician and the the 1st Baron of Harmsworth. In the letter Magill is acknowledging Harmsworth's recommendation, on the behalf of John Robert O'Connell (1868-1943), for the position of chief crown solicitor.
