As, however, section 1 of the Shops Act, 1912, does not
apply to Ireland (see section 21 (6)) I don't think any

This is a copy of a letter from Andrew Philip Magill (1871-1941), private secretary to the Chief Secretary for Ireland (Augustine Birrell), to George William Chrystal (1880-1944) of the Home Office in Whitehall, London. The letter acknowledges a letter and enclosure regarding British legislation relating to a weekly half-holiday for employees in the liquor trade. Magill points out the he believes the legislation would not be applicable to Ireland.Sir George William Chrystal was a British civil servant. In 1906 he transferred to the Home Office, serving successively as assistant private secretary to Home Secretary Reginald McKenna, and principal secretary to Permanent Secretary Sir Edward Troup. In 1917 he was appointed Assistant Secretary to the Ministry of National Service. After the end of the First World War in 1918 he became Secretary to the Ministry of Reconstruction and of the Demobilisation Section of the War Cabinet.
