1 July 10th 1916 Dear Katie, I hope this letter will find you all in good health
I am in the pink & feel better than ever. The weather is very
fine out here I hope it is the same in the old country. I suppose
the meadow is mowed by this time. As I write this letter the
fair of Dunboyne is in full swing I suppose Mathy Geragthy is
bringing a few screws today. How is Paddy going on
these times. I hope things are going better now do the best
you can until I get home again. You might send me a
razor in next parcel I have only one now another comes in
handy. I hope Bridget is well of the toothache tell her to remember
me to all at home. How is old Billy he is very old now the
little (jockey) horse must be a beauty now. The hedges along
the road will get a rest this summer. I will not be there to
keep them down. I would like if they could be kept in order
somehow. I know Jonny will do his best. I had a letter from
Tommy last week he told me the foal is as wild as a
stag. I was dreaming that I saw the two of them last night.
Remember me to all the neighbours around I hope all are well.
It will be a long time before I am home again I might be here
for the finish one are giving them socks now they will never beat
us. I have no more to say at present so I say good bye & may god
