Letter from Peter Mooney to his sister Katie Mooney, 21 November 1915
this morning. I am glad to
see by it that you and all are
well. I must thank you
for sending me Christy
Meehans address. It would
be better to keep the Photo
as it would only get all
crushed here. I will write
to Mr. Martin & tell him you
want five pounds. I see by
paper that the market
was good this week. We
got no drill yet, we are riding
the Horses now which you
may easily guess is for
me. Did the Hunt cross
any part of the places yet. 2 I was thinking of the hunt
today when I was grooming
my horse at two or it would
be about the time I was
they were letting out the
deer. I wrote to Paddy
during the week I suppose
he was telling you I saw
the advertisement about the
letting of the land in Holistown
in the papers. I hope it will
sit well. I do not no of any
chap of the name of O'Donnell
here yet but I might him
some day. To find any particular
man here is like looking
for a needle in a bundle of
straw. I suppose Charlie is
reading the Sport in the
Harness Room as I write
this it is now just half
past six I go to bed about
8.30 every night as the morning
is early here. I shave every
morning before I go out that
means getting up every morning
at 5.30. It came as no surprise
to me to hear that Dick
Farrell is bankrupt his lot
is indeed an unfortunate one
still he never put anything
before him. It was mean
of the Whithworth crowd
not to subscribe to your fund
but still they must have a
lot of calls nowadays. Tell
Miss Conlan I was asking
for her when you see her
again. I hope they are in
good health. Is there any 3 of the Volunteers left now at
all. I had a letter from
James Reilly during the
week he told me he does
not go near them now. I
suppose Tommy is at the kitchen
by this time. Tell John and Mrs
McAuley & the children I
was asking for them I must
write a letter to them shortly.
Tell Dick Manning & Paddy
and to make it short all
the neighbours around that
I was asking for them both
men women & children. Who
milks on Sunday mornings
now. I hope all the Doggies
& Horses are well. I have
no more to say. Good Bye &
May God Bless you all. Peter Mooney
