This letter is from Alfred Byrne (1882-1956), a member of parliament in Dublin harbor district and member of the Irish Parliamentary Party to Augustine Birrell (1850-1933), the Chief Secretary for Ireland. The letter recommends Charles P. O'Neill (b. 1867), an Irish solicitor, for the vacant position of Chief Crown Solicitor due to the death of former solicitor Malchy Kelly (1850-1916). The letter recommends O'Neill, noting the death of Kelly. It also notes that a word from Birrell will secure O'Neill the position and that his appointment would be received with great gratitude. It ends thanking Birrell on behalf of the Irish Parliamentary Party.
