A telegram (with envelope) from Alfred (‘Alfie’) Byrne (1882–1956), Irish Parliamentary Party (IPP) MP for Dublin Harbour, to Mrs. Walter Harris Wilson (or Katherine Anna (‘Katie’) Gifford Wilson (1875–1957)), informing her that the Under-Secretary for War will recommend that the authorities in Ireland stop the deportation of women. After the death of her husband in the 1918 influenza epidemic, Katherine Wilson returned to Ireland permanently (from Wales) and became active in Sinn Féin and Cumann na mBan. Katherine was sister to Muriel Enid Gifford MacDonagh (1884–1917) - who married Thomas MacDonagh (1878–1916); Grace (Evelyn) Gifford (1888–1955) - who married Joseph Mary Plunkett (1887–1916) in Kilmainham Gaol hours before his execution; Helen Ruth (‘Nellie’) Gifford Donnelly (1880–1971) - who took part in the Easter Rising; and Sydney Madge (‘John Brennan’) Czira (Gifford) (1889–1974) - who submitted articles to Arthur Griffith's newspaper, 'Sinn Fein'.
