Newtownstewart, Ireland. Oct 10.16 Dear Sir Edward So many thanks for your letter, &
all you did in the matter of opening the
way for an extension of the Constitution of
the H K Council — we await the President's letter— I had heard they would have to replace
Ulster Fed losses outside, unlessthere is con-
scription there can be not much voluntary material
to put in , of the right sort — 2 In the meantime rumours are flying
about — the neighbouring large Town's Post Office
news in the hands of our permanent pro-
tectors all Sunday, & all small detachments
were notified of trouble by cycle messengers,
where it is we do not know, I expect you
do — or it may be only production, But there
is someneed for extra patrols since Sat 7 Love to Ruby, she wont think that

Letter from Lady Rosalind Hamilton (1869-1958) to Edward Carson (1854-1935). Carson was a prominent Unionist Politician. Originally a practicing solicitor from Dublin, Carson's opposition to the proposed third Home Rule bill made him the figure head of Unionism throughout the island. He was the centerpiece of the speaking tour that culminated in Ulster Day (28 September 1912), when just under half a million signed Ulster's solemn league and covenant pledging to use ‘all means which may be found necessary to defeat the present conspiracy to set up a home rule parliament in Dublin’. Carson inaugurated the Larne gunrunning in 1914 which armed the UVF, many of whom Carson would encourage to join the British Army throughout the First World War. Lady Rosalind Cecilia Caroline Hamilton, née Bingham, was Duchess of Abercorn by marriage. She was a great-grandmother of Diana, Princess of Wales.
