letter is just to say one 2 word regarding the Irish stand—
point of the war. Surely you, or, someone who
will be listened to will
expose the pestilent nonsense
talked by J.Redmond last
night both as regards his
Volunteers who melted when war was declared! (when, especially he
was talking 'through his hat' !)
and the bunkum about his
grievance over the Irish Regts:
not being appreciated — Poor
chaps they have fought
splendidly, and have earned
great praise from many
quarters as they fully deserve,
& all this talk of his is only a blind to de— 3 ceive England, & give him
some sort of an apparent
grievance which he will
try to exploit against
NatService being applied
to Ireland. One word of warning as
to above. If my information is good
it goes to show the ex—
—istence of a gigantic
conspiracy over here, headed
by Redmond, Devlin, — Dillon
and abetted by certain
high officials in the Castle,
which would result in
a differentiation being made
as regards Ireland if &
when Nat Service comes
on. You saw Devlins
speech at Kilkenny, on
Sunday last, I enclose you
J.Dillon's latest. What
right have these men to
indulge in such impertinent
assertions as to policy? It would be absolutely fatal
if Ireland were left out
of the scheme — Redmond only
represents farmers & shop boys,
noneof them are enlisting. Pray do not trouble to answer
this, you can have no
