Letter from Fitzgibbon to Fr Provincial Thomas V. Nolan, 27 December 1917

1 27 December 1917 Dear FrProvincial— Very many
thanks indeed for Xmas Card
which arrived in good time. I had
a most consoling Xmas as all my
boys were free to get to Confession
&Holy Communion & they came in
parties to the three Masses. We had
to dig our church & cover it with bags
etc —most of the men were in the open
under a very hard frosty wind & although
the ground was covered with frozen snow
they knelt all during Mass, and sang
the Adeste & other hymns magnificently. The weather still continues very hard &
difficult for travelling still all parties
are sticking it very well. Goodbye Father Provincial with best wishes
for New Year Your obedient child Jack Fitzgibbon SJ
P.T.O. 2 I sent Fr Farley note re Masses
for last month but we were
notified that that days mail was
mislaid? The number I said
was 15. Would you mind letting
him know please

Letter from Fitzgibbon to Father Provincial regarding the receiving of the card from Fitzgibbon and Fr. Frauelling(?) Father Nolan (1867-1941) was the Provincial of the Irish Province of the Society of Jesus (1912-1922) and was a member of the Distribution Committee which looked after the welfare and distribution of the the Belgian refugees who arrived in Ireland as a consequence of the First World War.
