Many thanks for your kind letter.
I was on leave when Fr. Fitzgibbon was killed, and
when I returned I found that his effects had
all been sent to his home address (to his father).
He was so much loved and respected that great
care was taken that all (clothes, altar-kit, etc.) was sent.
It must indeed be a great loss to your Reverence;
for I cannot tell you what a loss he is to me.
Apart from out intimate friendship, he was such a
splendid organiser, had so tactful a way, and was so
zealous and hardworking; and yet was so kindly and
encouraging to us younger Chaplains that I feel quite
'at sea' without him. May he rest in peace.I have
said 4 Masses for his soul, and hope to say another soon.
Mass is a sore treat in the rough and tumble life
