Mother Just a few lines
to let you know I am well,
I received your letter &parcel
all right. You said Dan
Campbell was telling you I
was in the Mass again, but
it was only while we were
resting, we are back with
trenches again. So I am back
with my company. I was
over with John Ross and
the rest of the boys, they
are all in the best of form
I suppose the Port will
be getting quite busy now

good, we are having splen
did weather out here now.
I was very sorry to hear
about poor Robbie Millar

Letter from Samuel Shaw to his mother, Martha Shaw, informing her that he has returned
to the trenches. Samuel writes about meeting up with the boys and hopes that his father's
fishing is going well.
Samuel Henry Shaw (1896-1967) was a sergeant with the 10th Battalion, Royal Inniskilling
Fusiliers. He volunteered for active service in September 1914. Before enlisting Samuel
was a member of the Portstewart Company, Coleraine Battalion, North Derry Regiment,
Ulster Volunteer Force. Samuel served in France, and was wounded during the Battle
of the Somme in July 1916 and again in early 1917 and in 1918. Before the War he was
employed as a ironmonger's assistant.
