Derry 8.2.23 Chormaic, a chara, I got both your letters some
time back, pardon my length of time
in leaving them unanswered. I do
hope the boys & yourself are in good health
& spirits. I daresay, you ae receiving
many letters these days or at least during
last week. Such a bit of excitment as
prevailed about you all; lest the Awful
Tragedy as the papers termed it should
take place. It would have been nothing
new, of course, but still in Donegal it would
be awful. However, I dont think there's
any need to worry now, when Bishop O'Donnell
has taken spoken. Ginger has looked a poor
in New Bridge. I had a letter from 2 Paddy Curran & he says so. They are fairly
well treated there. There is no news
from Mountoy at all. Shan Hegarty hasn't
witten at since Xmas. All your Derry
friends are well, and wish to be
remembered to you. Really, I've no news to write
that would exscape the Scissors, so
there's no use in putting ink &
paper to loss, in these awful times
of plundring & destruction. The
Country is in an awful State & this
roving band, seems to be everywhere
& anywhere, at the one time. It's
CENSORED no doubt.
With Best Regards to the boys
& yourself, trust the clouds have passed
over the Castle and that no danger
prevails. Beannacht Dé agaibh nilig
Scriobh arís gan Mise do Chara dhil
