10 — I — 16. Dear Mrs. McGarry, In September, 1914, to meet pressing demands of the printer for
a reduction of the debt on the IRISH CITIZEN, I raised a bank loan
of £100, guaranteed by three good signatures in addition to my own.
I have not been able, owing to the continued strain on the IRISH
CITIZEN, to reduce the principal of this loan since; and now one of
the guarantors wishes to withdraw her name, because she is in favour
of conscription and objects to our opposition to it. The other two
guarantors are both perfectly good securities for the amount, but in
these days of extra financial stringency the bank will require a
third name to replace the one that is withdrawn. Could you poss-
ibly help in this difficulty, or suggest to me the name of someone
