Letter from William Loughnan (1881-1956) to the registrar at the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (RCPI) thanking the college for bestowing a distinction upon him. Colonel William Francis Loughnan was among the first contingent of the British Expeditionary Force to be dispatched to France after war broke out in August 1914. A serious injury received in November 1914 at Ypres forced Loughnan to stay out of action until 1917 when he returned to France and served for the remainder of the war.
