Bishops House,
St. Michael's,
Longford. My dear Monsignor.
I
wrote to Mr. Dooner
that he should give
me a guarantee
that if he got ill,
after becoming a
Priest, he would
not put this Diocese
to any expense. He
says in a telegram
to day that he will
do so. I, therefore,
2
put no stay
on his ordination
and you have all
faculties I can
give for his
ordination.
I am yours sincerely
+ J. Hoare
June 15.1916.
This is a letter from Bishop Joseph Hoare (1851-1927), bishop of Ardagh and Clonmacnoise,
to Rev Dr John Francis Hogan (1858-1918), priest, author and president of St. Patrick's
College, Maynooth from 1912-1918.
In the letter Hoare approves the ordination of a Mr. Dooner, as Dooner had given a
guarantee that if he grew ill following his acceptance into the priesthood he would
not put his diocese to any expense.
