               <p>This is a letter from Bishop Joseph Hoare (1851-1927), bishop of Ardagh and Clonmacnoise, to Rev Dr John Francis Hogan (1858-1918), priest, author and president of St. Patrick's College, Maynooth from 1912-1918.
In the letter Hoare approves the ordination of a Mr. Dooner, as Dooner had given a guarantee that if he grew ill following his acceptance into the priesthood he would not put his diocese to any expense.</p>

My dear Monsignor.  <lb/><lb/>I<lb/>wrote to Mr. Dooner<lb/>that he should give<lb/>me a guarantee<lb/>that if he got ill,<lb/>after becoming a<lb/>Priest, he would<lb/>not put this Diocese<lb/>to any expense. He<lb/>says in a telegram<lb/>to day that he will<lb/>do so. I, therefore,
