Letter from Father Willie Doyle S.J. to Hugh Doyle, 26 October 1916
1
J2/83 (92) B. A. Force. 26/10/'16. My dearest Father, As I have only
the tip of my nose and two
fingers sticking out of a sea
of mud, I must ask you to
excuse all shortenings in
this letter written under such
difficulties. You said in your
last welcome dispatch to me
that you hoped I would soon
be shaking the dust of Belgium
off my feet. As a matter of
fact a small earthquake would
be needed at the present moment
to free me from the affectionate
embraces of Mother Earth. However that is a trifle as I have 2 Ever so many stamps for
your welcome letters. I
hope you had a good
time in
with dear Mai. All well Will
