Letter from the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland to Dr. Charles Murray, 10 January 1916
10th JANUARY 16. Dr.Charles Murray,L.R.C.P& S.I, Dear Sir, In reply to your letter asking for duplication of your
diplomas as a Licentiate of this college may I suggest to
you that if you apply to the Registrar of the General
Medical Council, 44 Hallan street, Portland place, London, W.,
he will give you a copy of your registration certificate
which will probably answer your purpose as well as the
diplomas. It is legal evidence that you were entitled to
those diplomas. The issuing of new diplomas would involve
considerable expense and trouble and could not, I fear, be
done by the college without evidence of the destruction of
the old ones. Please let me know if the adoption of this course
will satisfy your requirements.
Yours faithfully,
Typescript letter to Dr Charles Murray suggesting that he apply to the Registrar of the General Medical Council for a copy of his registration certificate, which will probably 'answer your purpose as well as the diplomas'. The letters further states that the College could not reissue his diplomas without 'considerable expense and trouble and could not, I fear, be done by the College without evidence of the destruction of the old ones.'
