District Asylum,
Killarney 26 February, 1916. Sir, Your letter No.252 of the 3rd inst, which
enclosure
referring to the recent appointment of Dressmaker and Nurse
here, was duly considered by my Committee on the 24th inst.
I was directed to say in reply, for the information of the
Inspectors, that Bridget Cremin, who was appointed to the
position named, was the only candidate qualified by age
and she also had a certificate of competence from a local
dressmaker. Cremin was appointed subject to reports from
the R.M.S and the Matron and that latter appeared
before the Committee and reported verbally as to her fitness
and is to report further in writing to next meeting.
The appointment was made strictly in accordance with the
terms of advertisement, which bore no resemblance to
those quoted in the enclosure. The statement that Cremins
mother died in the Asylum is not correct;she was never a
patient here. I am, Sir,
your obedient servant,
Resident Medical Superintendent James Smith Esq.

COMPLAINT OF MISS MARY O'LEARY
RELATIVE TO APPOINTMENT OF MISS
BRIDGET CREMIN AS DRESSMAKER & NURSE.
MINUTE. Assistant Under Secretary, With reference to your Minute of the
2nd instant, we beg to state that we had
previous to its receipt informed Miss Mary O'Leary that
the appointment of a Dressmaker & Nurse in
the Killarney District Asylum is vested
solely in the Committee of Management, and
that any representations she wished to make
on the subject should be addressed to that body. We also forwarded a copy of her
letter
to the Committee, whose reply, dated the
26th instant, is now annexed. The matter does not appear to call for
any further action. M.R. Dawson. 28th February, 1916
This letter is from The Resident Medical Superintendent of the District Asylum in
Killarney assuring that the appointment of one Bridget Cremin as dressmaker and nurse
was due to her being the only suitable candidate.
