District Asylum, <lb/>Killarney 26 February, 1916. Sir, Your letter No.252 of the 3rd inst, which enclosure <lb/>referring to the recent appointment of Dressmaker and Nurse <lb/>here, was duly considered by my Committee on the 24th inst. <lb/>I was directed to say in reply, for the information of the <lb/>Inspectors, that Bridget Cremin, who was appointed to the <lb/>position named, was the only candidate qualified by age <lb/>and she also had a certificate of competence from a local <lb/>dressmaker. Cremin was appointed subject to reports from <lb/>the R.M.S and the Matron and that latter appeared <lb/>before the Committee and reported verbally as to her fitness <lb/>and is to report further in writing to next meeting. <lb/>The appointment was made strictly in accordance with the <lb/>terms of advertisement, which bore no resemblance to <lb/>those quoted in the enclosure. The statement that Cremins <lb/>mother died in the Asylum is not correct;she was never a <lb/>patient here. I am, Sir, <lb/>your obedient servant, <lb/>Resident Medical Superintendent James Smith Esq. <lb/>Office of Lunatic Asylum, <lb/>Dublin Castle

Office of Inspectors of Lunatic Dublin Castle. <lb/>KILLARNEY Lunatic Asylum. <lb/>SUBJECT. <lb/>COMPLAINT OF MISS MARY O'LEARY <lb/>RELATIVE TO APPOINTMENT OF MISS <lb/>BRIDGET CREMIN AS DRESSMAKER & NURSE. <lb/>MINUTE. Assistant Under Secretary, With reference to your Minute of the <lb/>2nd instant, we beg to state that we had <lb/>previous to its receipt informed Miss Mary O'Leary that <lb/>the appointment of a Dressmaker & Nurse in <lb/>the Killarney District Asylum is vested <lb/>solely in the Committee of Management, and <lb/>that any representations she wished to make <lb/>on the subject should be addressed to that body. We also forwarded a copy of her letter <lb/>to the Committee, whose reply, dated the <lb/>26th instant, is now annexed. The matter does not appear to call for <lb/>any further action. <seg type="unclear">M.R. Dawson.</seg> 28th February, 1916
