Ireland My dear Ellie, I am sure you are
heartbroken at the awful news,
but I hope and trust
he is better off. He was far
better prepared than if he
were outside and shot
without a priest being near! I went up to see Susie
to-day. She has a cold
but I was not allowed in
2
as there were some others in
the ward. I was speaking
to the Sister and she said
it would be better that I
did not see her. I think
you should not write her
until she is alright.The
nuns will break it to her.
She had a letter from Jon
this morning & had one
from Con also. I got a letter from poor
Charlie in the beginning of
the month, we were always
3
arguing about the country, but I never for a
moment thought the worst would happen to him
who I admired so much. I asked the nuns not to give Susie any
letters until she was alright. I will go up
again soon to see her. Now I hope you will all bear up, think
of all our Lord and his Blessed Mother
suffered. I feel sure he is up in Heaven
praying for us all. If you have a photograph of him
4
keep it for me or send it to
me sometime. Trusting your mother and
all are well. Yours very sincerely
S O'Brien .
