The cost was £80, but I doubt
if they had much out of it. I doubt if the Thorn will
be extracted at present. Yours most sincerely + Joseph Mac Rory
This is a letter addressed to Rev Dr John Francis Hogan (1858-1918) from Bishop Joseph
MacRory (1861-1945) of Down and Connor. John Francis Hogan was born in Clare and and
was an author, priest and President of St Patrick's College Maynooth. Joseph MacRory
was born in County Tyrone and became Bishop of Down and Connor in 1915 and held this
post until his death in 1928.
MacRory is writing to Hogan to inform him of the address of the Fitzpatrick brothers,
who built the Whitehead memorial, and the price of that memorial. A similar memorial
was later built at Maynooth.
