for the vacant Clerkship of the
Crown & Peace for country Westmeath. I practised as
a Solicitor in that County and also Longford for past
twelve years. As the appointment rests with the
Lord Lieutenant who I understand has resigned,
I put in my application for the position to you.

to Asquith as the position of lord lieutenant was temporarily vacant in the aftermath
of the Easter Rising. Herbert Henry Asquith (1852-1928) was Liberal Prime Minister
of the United Kingdom from 1908 to 1916.
