1 58 Aughrim St June 25th 1916 Sunday My dear Jim So glad to get your
letter yesterday and to
know that you are well
Also I am glad to hear
that Michael Kelly is
now out of hospital
and with you once
more. I had a long
letter from the Councillor 2 this morning He is still
in Wandsworth but
expects any day to be
sent to Wales. Liam
is gone you know
since Friday week and
I have not heard from
him since he went there
but I believe there is a
great delay in getting
letters from Frongoch
A friend of mine has
a brother sent there from
Wakefield. It would 3 be a nice change this
weather would it not
I believe the climate
is very mild, but that
it is in a very isolated
place. I wonder when
will I have you all
home again. If you
could all just drop
up to see me and
have a chat now! A few chaps I know
have been released from 4 Wakefield. Pakie has
got his holidays, he was
in for Intermediate
Kathleen Mollin was here
during the week. She
asked most particularly
for you and wants
to know do you remember
the garden seat on St
Patrick's Eve. I will write
soon again. Bye

This is a letter from Cis M Coyle to James Ryan (1891-1970) on 25 June 1916. This letter was written while Ryan was a prisoner in Stafford. The writer refers to mutual friends at home and those imprisoned after the Rising and discusses the weather in Wales where many of the Rising prisoners were being sent. James Ryan studied medicine in UCD. He was appointed chief medical officer in the GPO during the Easter Rising. After the Rising he was imprisoned in Stafford and, later, Frongoch and was released in August 1916. Ryan was later a founder member of Fianna Fáil and a government minister.
