Letter from Gus to Eamonn O'Modhráin, 13 June 1916
glad to hear that you
continue well. The girls
were in Ballysax on
Sunday and I believe
everything is going on
well there. I was
speaking to a chap 2 named Macken who has
lately returned from
your 'college'. He gave
me a good account
of all the Rules and
Regulations of your present
abode. I am expecting
to see you back here any
day but in case you
don't arrive before
next week I intend
going over to see you 3 I will probably leave Dublin
Monday or Tuesday night 19th
or 20th Inst. In the meantime
if you want anything particularly
write home to Ballysax as I
will be there on Sunday (D.V.)
and I can bring whatever you
require. It is pleasant to know
that a good number of the
restrictions placed on you at first
have since been released. Ben
Eoghan O'Brien is in Stafford and
his brother Peadar is in Knutsford.
Their mother died last week (RIP)
and they never knew a word about
it. We are all well here. Lewis
is coming to himself again. Best
wishes hoping to see you soon Yours Gus
This is a letter to Eamonn O'Modhráin (Edward Moran) (1881-1954) from a friend, Gus. O'Modhráin had been arrested and imprisoned after the Easter Rising and spent time in Wakefield Prison and Frongach Internment Camp. This letter was sent while O'Modhráin was in Wakefield. The author refers to a conversation with a prisoner recently released from Wakefield, friends held in other prisons and friends and family at home, including O'Modhráin's brother Lewis, who had been released from Wakefield.
