Letter from Lilly to 'Tweety' (Lady Clonbrock), 17 July 1916
1
GWYNFRYN,
CRICCIETH,
N. WALES July 17. /16 My dearest Tweety, Much love, & many
congratulations, to you &
dear old Gerald, for this
Golden Day! It does seem
many years, since that very
hot day, 50 years ago, when
the golden knot was tied,
& the slight cord and then, has 2
now became a rope, which will
go on thickening, for love
can never die! — I've four remaining sisters
send you a small offering
which I hope you will like
I wish it could have been
solid gold — but the time
gold be in the love
& good wishes of us all. —
It is nice to think of you all
together, in London, on the Day.
Don't think of writing to me
for a long, long time, no girl
will have such lots to do &
so many letters to write. — A letter from Katie this day
tells me how much she
enjoyed Edie's visit, but also
gives Esther a good accord
of your Helen.— 3 I am so glad that Gerald
is able to attend the House
& try & stay evil & help on
the good. But what can
happen? All must wait if
possible till the war is
over & the continued good
news makes me hopeful of
a collapse in Germany, as
well as Austria. — Yr loving Lilly. 4 The
