Kans March 15th 1923 Dear Cousin Con. I have just
heard of poor Charley's execution
I sincerley and with heart-felt
sorrow sympathize with you and all
the family at the loss of such
a noble son. Of all the boys who
fought against the black & tans and
freak staters none was so dear
to me as poor Charley. I hear
about them them in every letter
2
of all the many cousins I had in the
dear old land there was none I loved so
much as poor Charley. I hope
Mrs Daly is keeping up alright under
such trying dreadful sorrow. I hear
the priests in Ireland refuse to pray
for them the murdered republicans
God help us! they don't amount to
much. Give my sympathy to all
the family, and daily I will pray
for the so happy repose of Charley's
soul. Trusting you will ber bear up
alright under such drastic circumstances
and with every good wish I remain your
Fond Cousin

since I left home. How the three
of them were arrested by the freak
staters, but the terrible blow of
poor Charley execution was the last
I expected. A man who did the very
best from the very beginning. I hope
Tom and Bill won't be executed. I have said 2 high masses for his
soul already, but I know that
sinless soul of his is gone to
a better land. His patriotism only
came second to his religion, so don't
be depressed. You gave him for a
noble cause. It's well I rember
him going to confession at Tralee every
saturday. Will you please send
me a photograph of his. One in
uniform if you have it.
