This postcard opens in French joking about his limitations in that
language as he now lives with Flemish speakers. “And as Tommy says my language at
present is “No bon””.
Nancy McCarthy was a well-practised letter-writer, and her collection of correspondence
spans eighty years. This postcard is one of seven included in the Letters of 1916
collection written to Nancy by her uncle, George D. Roche, on active service with
the 7th London regiment during World War I.
