May 27.1916 Dear Sir Enclosed letter will explain
my application for permission to
disinter a corpse buried about a
month ago. A drunken son came
home after his mothers death but re-
-fused to do anything or even to be
present at the funeral service
I understand he has since left the
neighbourhood and his whereabouts
are not known. The woman was buried
2
in unconsecrated ground adjoining
the Workhouse. I am willing to under-
take to have the disinterment decently
carried out, and the corpse re-inter-
-red in the graveyard of Mitchelstown
Church. The woman's name was
Ellen Duggan - aged about 60 yrs
Yours very truly

Rev. Canon Abbott -
Dear Canon.
It is with deep regret
I learned of my poor
mother's death at Fermoy
Hospital & am terribly
grieved to hear she has
been buried in a paupers
grave, would not one
friend give her a decent
burial for me, as I wrote
and asked my brother to get
4
Canon Moore to see to all arrangements
& would forward all expenses per
return mail, why it was not done
I cannot understand. My brother
must be a hard hearted wretch to
see his good hard working mother
laid away like that, when I was
willing to pay for everything. Well Canon, do you think it is
possible to have my mother's body
re-coffined and buried in Mitchelstown
Parsh Church Yard, it would be
a great consolation to me to have it
done, I dont care what the expense
is. I will gladly pay for all. Have
written Canon Moore also about it,
& if you both can arrange for
that, you will have my heartfelt
gratitide. Sorry to cause you
any trouble, but this is a terrible
blow to me & I feel that all the
more, when such a thing happened.
Awaiting your kind reply. Sincerely
Yours Frank Duggan
