May <seg type="unclear">27.</seg>1916 Dear Sir Enclosed letter will explain<lb/>my application for permission to<lb/>disinter a corpse buried about a<lb/>month ago. A drunken son came<lb/>home after his mothers death but re-<lb/>-fused to do anything or even to be<lb/>present at the funeral service<lb/>I understand he has since left the<lb/>neighbourhood and his whereabouts<lb/>are not known. The woman was buried

in unconsecrated ground adjoining<lb/>the Workhouse. I am willing to under-<lb/>take to have the disinterment decently<lb/>carried out, and the corpse re-inter-<lb/>-red in the graveyard of Mitchelstown<lb/>Church. The woman's name was<lb/>Ellen Duggan - aged about 60 yrs<lb/><lb/> Yours very truly <lb/>(Rev) I C Abbott<lb/>Rector of Fermoy

184 Main St<lb/>New Britian<lb/>Connecticut <lb/>America   May 8th <lb/>Rev. Canon Abbott -<lb/>Dear Canon.<lb/>It is with deep regret<lb/>I learned of my poor<lb/>mother's death at Fermoy<lb/>Hospital & am terribly<lb/>grieved to hear she has<lb/>been buried in a paupers<lb/>grave, would not one<lb/>friend give her a decent<lb/>burial for me, as I wrote<lb/>and asked my brother to get
<pb n="4" facs="L1916_3212_img_2634_4"/>
Canon Moore to see to all arrangements<lb/>& would forward all expenses per<lb/>return mail, why it was not done<lb/>I cannot understand. My brother<lb/>must be a hard hearted wretch to<lb/>see his good hard working mother<lb/>laid away like that, when I was<lb/>willing to pay for everything. Well Canon, do you think it is<lb/>possible to have my mother's body<lb/>re-coffined and buried in Mitchelstown<lb/>Parsh Church Yard, it would be<lb/>a great consolation to me to have it<lb/>done, I dont care what the expense<lb/>is. I will gladly pay for all. Have<lb/>written Canon Moore also about it,<lb/>& if you both can arrange for<lb/>that, you will have my heartfelt<lb/>gratitide. Sorry to cause you<lb/>any trouble, but this is a terrible<lb/>blow to me & I feel that all the<lb/>more, when such a thing happened.<lb/>Awaiting your kind reply. Sincerely <lb/>Yours Frank Duggan
