This is a letter from Alice Maud Alexander (b.1868). The letter is written during
the period of martial law in Ireland following the Easter Rising. The letter regards
the application on the part of Alexander for a permit to travel to Ireland. In the
letter Alexander states that she wishes to return to her position as companion to
Emily Maud Charlotte Wolfe (1892-1980), a girl from a wealthy farming family. Alexander
goes on to state that she had been directed to contact the Irish Office to receive
a permit to travel back to Ireland to take up the position and wishes to leave for
Ireland the following week.
