343 Winchester House Old Broad Street London 28th April 1916 Sir I have the honour to offer my
services in any capacity for which
I may be suited. I served for 27 years in the State
Railway Dept Govt of India & was
specially selected for several important
posts. I built the Durban Railways
in 1911 and was rewarded with
the distinction of C.V.O I have been in sole charge of survey
operations through the Sind desert
& much of my life has been spent
in charge of construction operations
in out of the way jungles. I was
some years ago badly smashed up at
polo & have been so knocked about
that I believe there were some doubts
as to whether I would even be fit
again but I have been making
myself fit & can now hunt walk
shoot & play almost all games I have of course offered by services
through the India Office & had an
interview at the War Office but the
objection to employing me appears at
present to be that I held too high &
responsible posts in India to now
go into a subordinate position.
I have personally no objection to
serving even under those who were
my junior assistants. I have no
objection to working with my hands
at any menial job if by so doing
I can assist my country. I can drive
a motor but am not a skilled mechanic I have the honour to be
