Mar 18th 1923 My Dear Con, It is with
feelings of the most profound
regret that I pen you
these few lines to express
my heartfelt sympathy
to you & your family in
your very sad bereavement.
Certainly sad to see your
darling boy cut down in
the prime of life with
3
apparently a prosperous and
brilliant career before him,
but a glorious death when
you come to think of what
he died for. What he died for,
is, what he strove for the
last 4 or 5 years to establish
in our land, Liberty, Truth
and Justice. Any man dying
in the sincere attempt to
establish those, I say his
death is certainly grand,
and his resurrection will
certainly be glorious. Suffice
4
(3) it to say that with this
hurried note I sincerely wish
to again convey my very deep
sympathy to you and your family
in this your hour of trial. It
certainly is an hour of trial,
but if you stand that trial
with patience and resignation
to Gods will your reward will
certainly be great. Think of
the words which God himself
spoke when he said 'Gold and
Silver are tried in the fire
but the just man is tried in
5
the fire of humiliation' You
certainly are tried in that
fire now, but look to the
future with that undying
hope that we shall all meet
one day where sorrow shall
be no more and suffering
shall be at an end. In
conclusion I hope and pray
that God may give you grace &
patience to bear this your trial,
and that his soul may find
everlasting rest
Yours faithfully
Thos Donoghue
