Letter from James Tate to his mother, Millicent Tate (née Farren), 1 June, 1916
which I got last mail. I am
very sorry to hear about Baby
and I hope she is getting on
well. I got a letter from uncle
Bav this week & he says you the kids
have all got whooping cough 2 wether this includes Phillis or not
I don't know. Anyway you must
have your hands full. Billy
arrived here on Tuesday from
Peshawar. He was on his way
to Murree to see the dentist
went off on Wednesday afternoon
& I expect him back any time
this evening. He seems to be 3 in great form. And is still recruiting.
I am going up to Gharial on Saturday
for a fortnight. I have heard no
more about my going on active
service but may do any day
now. I have not been able to
get a syce yet but have
got a bearer allright. P.M.s do not like going to the 4 Persian Gulf at all. Bits of the new pumping engine
have arrived but not enough
to make any show. The new
bomb is nearly finished. Prince
has sent two dummys up to
the division. He wanted to show it
to Billy but he retired behind
a pillar & said he would rather
not as I had helped to make
it. I hope all the invalides are getting
on well. With love to all from your
loving son Jimmy 5 Mrs. A. C. Tate
