(Sat) My dear Cissie Hope you are all quite well.
I am doing the invalid yet getting up at
12 oc. & sitting all day long. I felt very
weak when I arrived home I had a big
crowd to meet me & mother was sorry I did
not stay longer in the home or go to Belfast.
I can't walk yet isn't it taking a long time.
I do hope I will get alright. Tell Jack Sin Feinn badges are selling on the
streets here & Fr Moloney is having a collection
tomorrow. I travelled with an Inspector of
Nat. Schools (Coleman). His brother got 3 years
& he read a part of his letter for me & he says
the food wasn't fit for dogs. We have A. Daly yet. She is a great Cod.
Goodbye & best love to all. I was
telling the lovely home Lil has got. From your fond friend Flo

Florence Mary Winifred (Flo) Clancy (1884-1958) lived all her life in the same house
in Kilrush on the street generally known as Moore Street, but later renamed briefly
Clancy Street, in honour of her first cousin Peadar Clancy (1888-1920). Mary Ann (Cissie)
Waldron née McNamara (1884-1966), whose mother was a Clancy, was supposedly distantly
related to her great friend, but they were unable to document the relationship. By
the time this letter was written, Cissie was pregnant with her third child, born on
5 February 1917 and named Patrick Henry Pearse Waldron (1917-2008). Flo's brother
William Joseph Clancy (1879-1918) had emigrated first to Rhodesia and then to Argentina,
but volunteered for active service in October 1914, and returned to England, where
he joined King Edward's Horse, subsequently transferring to the Liverpool Scottish.
He died of meningitis on 16 October 1918, while still on active service. Another brother,
Henry Sylvester Clancy (1883-1942) had settled in Belfast, to which reference is made
in the letter. Jack Waldron (1884-1958), Cissie's husband, is also mentioned, as is
Cissie's sister Lil Waldron (1886-1973), who was married to Jack's brother. I have
not yet identifed Fr. Moloney, the Colemans or A. Daly who are also mentioned.
