This letter was sent by Captain G. Stratford-Burton, the garrison adjutant for Ship St. Barracks and Dublin District. The letter was addressed to the under-secretary for Ireland. Up until May this position was occupied by Sir Matthew Nathan (1862-1939). However, in May Nathan offered his resignation following the outbreak of the Easter Rising. He was soon replaced by Sir Robert Chalmers (1858-1938). In this letter Stratford-Burton informs under-secretary that he is forwarding him the twelfth list of casualties incurred in connection with the Sinn Féin insurrection.
