Michael Joseph Kennedy is sending his condolences to Thomas's parents on behalf of the Sinn Féin club members, not knowing his "people's address". Thomas Ashe (* 1885) was a member of the Gaelic League, the Irish Republican Brotherhood (IRB) and co-founder of the Irish Volunteers. His republican activities eventually led to his imprisonment in Mountjoy where he went on hunger strike in September 1917. He died several days later at the age of 32.
