               <p>Kate English (b1855) was the mother of Patrick English (1894-1970) . This letter is part of a correspondence shared between Kate and Patrick during his imprisonment in 1916.In this letter, Kate expresses her concern for her son Patrick, following the Rising and his subsequent imprisonment in Frongoch. She mentions her relief on finding out that he was alive and that she will send on shoes and socks or anything else he may need.Patrick English was an Irish Volunteer imprisoned in the Stafford and later Frongoch Prisons. He had at least six cousins fighting with the British Army in France during his incarceration.</p>

                Dunsink Cottages   Castleknock  Co Dublin    18/5/1916   My Dear son Patrick   I hope <lb/> you will have the pleasure of <lb/>reading this letter from me <lb/>My heart was broken about <lb/> you I could not make out <lb/>where you went to on Easter <lb/>Monday I was near wild <lb/><sic>untill</sic> I saw your name in <lb/> the Paper but 'thank God' <lb/>you are alive I am all <sic>righ</sic><lb/><sic>my self</sic> I sleep in Jamesy's <lb/> and <sic>comes</sic> home in the <lb/>morning I am sure you
