Tomseems to be in good form, hewas asking for Irish Books andseems to be studying, he isallowed receive and write oneletter a week, he can getin Irish Books too — I broughtthe ones he wanted to the gate on Sat. last. I had a letter fromFlorrie Mahony to—day, she is reallyheart—broken, Mrs. Mahony was into see Susie, but of course shewouldn't be allowed to theInfirmary for fear Susan wouldsuspect something I was in Whelan's on Sat. andthey said that Susan shouldgo out to them as soon asshe is able to sit up, andthat they would break thesad news by degrees to her, Ithink she would like to gothere too, and it would bemore suited to her frame of mindtoo for they are all grown upwould understand her feelingswhereas in Leixlip there area crowd of youngsters whowould not understand Sheila O'Brien was up heretwice, but she was not in to see Susan, the nuns are very carefulabout her and want her to getstrong herself before she hearsanything, for she would never beable to bear it now. It is veryhard to hear her talking sohappily about the three of you, shewas delighted to have your'sand Tom's letters. It is veryhard to think that Charlieis dead, for I knew him aswell from hearing Susanalways talking about him &from his letters which werecertainly unusual types.
