<p>The data in these XML files was generated based on a data dump from the Magellan database (https://github.com/Maynooth-Center-for-Digital-Humanities/Magellan). Each database record has been converted to a JSON file (https://github.com/letters1916static/letters-data/tree/main/json). The element section of the JSON file contains the TEI-encoded contents of the letters. The TEI XML has been cleaned and made well-formed using a Python script (https://github.com/letters1916static/letters-data/tree/main/src).</p>

P41/24/6 Main St.,<lb/>Ballybofey, Saturday A Cara At Rose O’Donnell’s request<lb/>I am writing you this note — she is imprisoned<lb/>this last few weeks. It was I wrote the<lb/>letter to your mother in her name as she<lb/>directed me to do the evg. she was arrested.<lb/>I suppose you did not remark the difference<lb/>in the handwriting as we write rather much<lb/>alike. Up until a week ago they were not<lb/>allowed any communication with the outside<lb/>world, though she managed to get a few<lb/>letters out to me on the sly. I got the last one<lb/>you sent to her &amp; managed to get it into<lb/>her alright. Then I did not know whether<lb/>to ans. it or not until I rec. a letter from

her today asking me to write to you &amp; to<lb/>say she would be very pleased to hear<lb/>from you, they are only allowed to write &amp;<lb/>rec one letter per week &amp; likely it would<lb/>be some time until you would get a reply. I am just after being told<lb/>that the Lady prisoners are going to be<lb/>removed to Dublin but you can write to<lb/>the enclosed address &amp; if they are removed early<lb/>they will send it on. Or if you wish to ans.<lb/>this letter. I will write again &amp; let you know. Yrs sincerely<lb/>Brigid Mac Cearron (Rose’s chum)<lb/>Carron <!-- It looks like Brigid was clarifying that “Cearron” was Carron in English--> Miss Rose O’Donnell<lb/>Military Barracks<lb/>Buncrana<lb/>Co.
