<p>The data in these XML files was generated based on a data dump from the Magellan database (https://github.com/Maynooth-Center-for-Digital-Humanities/Magellan). Each database record has been converted to a JSON file (https://github.com/letters1916static/letters-data/tree/main/json). The element section of the JSON file contains the TEI-encoded contents of the letters. The TEI XML has been cleaned and made well-formed using a Python script (https://github.com/letters1916static/letters-data/tree/main/src).</p>

P41/4/6/2 Prisoner 311<lb/>Hut 1<lb/>No. 2 Tintown Camp<lb/>The Curragh Dear Mrs Daly, I tender you my heartfelt sympathy<lb/>in the sore trial you have to bear through<lb/>poor Charlie's (R.I.P) untimely end But no doubt its a consolation the fact<lb/>of he having received the rites of The Church<lb/>as he went to meet his God. As this Camp is next to the one Bill is in<lb/>I happened to have a few passing words with<lb/>him to day. He told me let you know<lb/>he is alright and well under the circumstances<lb/>and not to have you worry over he having<lb/>not written, as at present all letters and<lb/>parcels have been stopped in his camp. Again I can assure you Mrs Daly I<lb/>cannot express in words how I feel for<lb/>you in your trouble. I remain<lb/>Yours in sympathy Denis Mahony 311 If you have anything<lb/>to say to Bill<lb/>write to me<lb/> DM
