            <p>The data in these XML files was generated based on a data dump from the Magellan database (https://github.com/Maynooth-Center-for-Digital-Humanities/Magellan). Each database record has been converted to a JSON file (https://github.com/letters1916static/letters-data/tree/main/json). The element section of the JSON file contains the TEI-encoded contents of the letters. The TEI XML has been cleaned and made well-formed using a Python script (https://github.com/letters1916static/letters-data/tree/main/src).</p>

             P41/2/1/3 9th Nov '21 <seg type="foreign"/> Got your letter of the 7th last<lb/>night.<lb/>Mick Allman arrived here last<lb/>Sat. night. He took me by surprise<lb/>for even though if he was appointed I<lb/>expected that he would go home<lb/>first. He spent the whole week in<lb/>Dublin &amp; was twice disappointed by<lb/>the D.E. who made appointments<lb/>with him. He was in a fix &amp; did not<lb/>know what to do and happening to<lb/>meet one of my men he came right<lb/>on here with him to see me.<lb/>He left again yesterday to try<lb/>&amp; hunt up the D.E. &amp; will probably<lb/>go home tomorrow for a few days.<lb/>I suppose his people must be wor(ryi)<lb/>ng what has become of him for (he)<lb/>was to go home last week.<lb/>I think that he will be <seg type="unclear"/>
            <pb n="2" facs="L1916_4946_img_0_2"/>
             to this place alright. I expect Free<lb/>will not like it but he can afford<lb/>to do without him better than I can.<lb/>Of course twould be much nicer<lb/>for Mick to be at home. He<lb/>said that he would call around<lb/>to see ye when at home. He is<lb/>great sport &amp; has some good<lb/>yarns. So Jim McCarthy is getting<lb/>married to Mrs Brennan. Let me<lb/>know when the wedding is so that<lb/>I may send him a note. I am glad to hear that ye are<lb/>getting the house improved. I expect<lb/>to find it very snug when I go home.<lb/>This conference is a good deal tougher<lb/>that expected. After all it looks<lb/>as if they were arriving at a settlement<lb/>We will soon know now, best<lb/>wishes to all<lb/> In haste<lb/>Cormac
