This letter is part of a rich correspondence between various members of the Duffin family, a large prosperous family living in Strandtown, Belfast. Several family members served in the war, including Major Terence Duffin, who served as a staff officer with 107 Brigade, and later with Royal Irish Rifles; Major Charles G Duffin MC, Royal Field Artillery; and their sisters Emma, Celia and Dorothy who served as Voluntary Aid Detachments (VADS) in Egypt and France, and with the YMCA.

 Sunday Nov 28th 1915 No. 16 General Hospital S.P.O. V13 Dear Mamma I was glad to see your letter this morning. I think Lucie must have forgotten to post the one I wrote you last Sunday or you would have got it before 24th (the Oric on John). Ms Bell will not be back till the end of this week or the beginning of next (4th-6th) so I shall more likely stay on till then and then go to Eastbourne. I shall let you know when I arrive there. The cold here is frightful, everything frozen hard. The water freezing in the jugs in the house! I have been playing golf nearly every day but this frost will stop it. This plain Higgins may have head off the Home enough from the Cavlers who know them in the Isle of Wight. For we lack a litte science but I am One at the counter now. Best love to all.
